On September 8, 2008, Brazil & US will be releasing O Violão e o Samba and Samba de Fé, two of the singer’s latest and most acclailmed albums. Both works will be available on Itunes, CD Baby, Amazon, BrazilNYC and several other retailers in the United States.

Adorina Guimarães Barros (aka Dorina) was born in the Carioca suburb of Irajá, and was introduced to the general public in 1996, by the great Paulinho of the Viola. On that same year, Dorina recorded her first album, “I Sing Samba”, for Leblon Records. With this work, Dorina won the “Revelation” award (given to new artists) in the Samba category at the prestigious Prêmio Sharp.

In 1997, Dorina toured with De Paulo a Paulinho, a show which told the history of one of Rio de Janeiro’s most beloved and revered Samba schools, Portela. And also in 1997, she was invited by Zeca Pagodinho to sing at the famed João Caetano theater and from that point onwards, Dorina’s career never ceased to grow.

In 2001, she performed next to Ivone Lara in the project Classics of Samba, at the Municipal Theater of Niterói, and offered her vocals to the album House of Samba 4, produced by Rildo Hora for Universal Music. In the latter collection, Dorina sang “Falso Amor Sincero” with Walter Alfaiate; the track was originally written by Nelson Sargento.

After winning the Best Performer award at the Fábrica do Samba Music Festival in 2002, with the song Menino de Rua, Dorina achieved new levels of national exposure by participating in the prestigious Pixinguinha Project, in 2003. Since then, Dorina has collaborated on several other initiatives to perpetuate the legacy of street Samba throughout Brazil.

If O Violão e o Samba is arguably Dorina’s most subtle and gentle work to date, her track list, which she personally handpicked for the album, shows that Dorina has an impeccable knowledge of her repertoire. O Violao e o Samba brings tracks by Paulinho da Viola (Tudo se Transformou ), Cartola (Cordas de Aço) and Chico Buarque (Amanhã Ninguém Sabe), to name a few.

The more energetic Samba de Fé brings 13 tracks and five new ones:
“Que Batuque É Esse” (Moacyr Luz e Sereno), “Obaxirê” (Toninho Gerais e Roque Ferreira), “Sonhava” (Riko Dorilêo e Luiz Carlos da Vila), “Na Hora de Voltar” (Adilson Galvão e Adauto Magalha) e “Lindo Passado de Glória” (Mauro Diniz) the latter is an homage to Portela’s “Velha Guarda” (Velha Guarda is the name given to the older generation of Samba composers are referred to in Brazil). Portela is the Samba school Dorina calls her own.
